How the mantle bridge moves ETH and MNT

The mantle bridge moves ETH and MNT between Ethereum and Mantle, but each transfer needs gas on the network where it starts. A mantle bridge transfer also does not swap one token for another: it moves an asset to a matching representation on the other network. That distinction matters because ETH arriving on Mantle is not the same as having MNT for fees.

How do you bridge ETH to Mantle?

Choose Ethereum as the source, Mantle as the destination, and ETH as the asset, then connect the wallet that holds the funds. Check the receiving address and amount before you sign. An ETH deposit uses ETH for its Ethereum transaction fee. Once the deposit is processed, the destination wallet receives bridged ETH on Mantle.

Bridged ETH can be used where that token is accepted, but it does not pay for ordinary transactions on Mantle. Those fees are paid in MNT. Plan for that before sending if you will need to move, swap or use the ETH after it arrives. A successful wallet approval is also not a deposit: if the bridge asks for an approval, wait for it to confirm, then sign the separate deposit transaction.

How do you transfer MNT between Ethereum and Mantle?

First check the bridge’s asset selector for MNT in the direction you want to send. A token name alone does not confirm that the same asset is available on both networks; the network and token mapping matter. If MNT is listed for that route, select it, review the displayed destination asset and amount, and follow the wallet prompts. An ERC-20 transfer may require an approval before the deposit.

MNT has a second role on Mantle: it is the network’s native gas token. MNT held on Ethereum cannot pay a fee on Mantle, and bridged ETH cannot take its place. If your aim is only to fund Mantle transactions, compare the available ways to obtain MNT with the cost and steps of bridging it. For most users, the simpler choice is the route that leaves them with both the asset they need and enough MNT to use it.

What fees and wait times should you expect?

Deposits and withdrawals have different steps. A deposit starts on Ethereum and is credited on Mantle after the source transaction and bridge processing. A withdrawal starts on Mantle and needs MNT for its transaction fee; the funds become available on Ethereum only after settlement and a separate claim. That claim uses ETH for gas, even when the asset being withdrawn is ETH.

Before signing, check the selected networks, destination address, token and amount. Leave enough ETH for any Ethereum approval and deposit, and enough MNT for Mantle activity. For a withdrawal, keep some ETH aside for the claim and use the bridge’s transfer status to see when it is ready. Save the transaction hash so you can check progress if the balance does not appear right away.

  • ETH sent to Mantle arrives as bridged ETH, not MNT.
  • MNT pays Mantle network fees; ETH pays Ethereum fees.
  • A token approval and a bridge deposit are separate transactions.
  • A withdrawal may need a later Ethereum claim.

The practical choice depends on where your funds are and what you need to do next: bridge ETH for an ETH balance on Mantle, and make sure you have MNT there for fees. Watch the route’s asset list and transfer status before sending, since supported tokens and processing steps can change.
