Set Up Your Wallet for a First Polygon Withdrawal
A first Polygon withdrawal is mostly a network match: choose Polygon PoS at the sending service, confirm the wallet can receive the asset, and leave POL for fees.

Before a first Polygon withdrawal, match the network at the sending service to the one your wallet will use. A correct wallet address on the wrong network can leave funds hard to recover, so check the route and asset before sending.
Which Polygon network should I choose?
Choose Polygon PoS if that is the network your wallet and receiving service support for the asset. “Polygon” can refer to more than one network, and a token may be available on one without being available on another.
If you are moving funds from Ethereum through a bridge, the route affects how the transfer works and how long a withdrawal back may take. This guide to choosing a Polygon Bridge route for your token covers that distinction in more detail. An exchange withdrawal is a different process: it sends the asset directly on a network the service supports.
What does my wallet need before funds arrive?
Your wallet needs to support Polygon PoS and the token you plan to receive. Many self-custody wallets can switch networks, but check that Polygon PoS is enabled and that the token can be shown there. A missing token display does not always mean the transfer failed; wallets may need the token added before showing its balance.
Keep some POL in the wallet for fees after the transfer. POL is the native token used to pay for transactions on Polygon PoS. Without it, you may be able to see the incoming asset but not send it or use an app on the network.
What should I check before sending?
Compare the network, asset, and destination address shown by the sending service with the details in your wallet. If the service offers a test withdrawal, send a small amount first and wait for it to arrive before sending more. Fees and minimum withdrawal amounts can also affect how much reaches the wallet.
- Confirm the withdrawal network says Polygon PoS, if that is the network you intend to use.
- Check that the receiving wallet address is copied in full and belongs to you.
- Review the asset ticker and any minimum amount or fee shown before confirming.
- Keep or acquire POL for a later transaction, such as moving the asset out.
Once the transfer is submitted, use the sending service’s transaction record to check its status. If it is marked complete but the wallet balance has not changed, make sure the wallet is set to Polygon PoS and that it displays the right token. For the next step, watch for the transfer to confirm and check that enough POL remains for the action you plan to take.
